First, a brief note about myself, I am a retired transplant and vascular surgeon with a 20 year career as full time academic staff at Harvard Medical School. Prior to that, I was the Medical Program Director at the Avco-Everett Research Laboratory (AERL), the leading Institute on vehicle re-entry from outer space, a 750 person leading aerospace laboratory, with world-class expertise in fluid mechanics, plasma dynamics, materials, solid state physics, aeronautical engineering, as we explored cardiac assist devices and artificial hearts. Our breakthrough, the Intra-Aortic Balloon, is still in use today, more than 50 years later. After retiring from the practice of surgery at Harvard, I founded two companies, and also served as the president of the Medical Development Group and accepted the position of adjunct lecturer at MIT, where I met Sahar (Dr. Hashmi) and worked with her for three years.
